I'M BECBEC.
Salutations!I’m Bec, a mixed media artist based in the Toronto area. I wield the pencil, pen, and tablet stylus in equal measure as I oscillate between the physical and digital page. Whether photoshopping existing drawings or transforming watercolour paintings into pure vectors, I find it far more intriguing to use the physical and digital worlds enhance and resolve each other than to limit oneself to a single one. After a few years as a mixed media artist, I studied architecture at McGill Univeristy. I found love for the geometry of Brutalism and the Bauhaus, for stark light and shadow, and for observing other people and their behaviour. This love bled into the way I saw and interpreted the world. Now I record it in volumes of lights and shadows and express it in exaggerated graphic lines and pronounced hatching. The subjects of my drawings are primarily original characters. While many of my friends’ characters are grounded in their experiences, many of my characters take inspiration from or are grounded in my Filipino heritage. When I’m not making art, I care for the house or bind new books. I pride myself on my domestic abilities just as much as my ability to be my friend’s first publisher.Graduated from McGill University, Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture 2021. BSc. Architecture. My résumé is downloadable here with a full CV available after contacting me at [email protected].

TERMS OF SERVICE
You can read the important stuff here. A sample contract is linked below, alongside a summary in more casual language.
General Guidelines
By commissioning me, you are agreeing to the terms of service set here in my ToS or your “Contract to Commission an Artwork.” Any statement of this contract can be changed upon discussion prior to the commission.
By ordering art you are agreeing that you are 18+
You may commission me for commercial work, but please discuss this before commissioning me officially. This includes use of my work on books, covers, merchandise, for the promotion of goods, services, or use on social media pages. Expect higher charges for commercially intended work.
Please write in a clear and precise manner. I will not tolerate ill behaviour and will cancel your commission if it occurs.
Fast turnarounds and short deadlines are possible, but tell me in your first email/on your form.
If you wish to be anonymous, please tell me in your first email/on your form.
Please be mindful of my art style -- if I am asked to draw differently, I may need additional time or request additional fees. Changes are welcome before the commissioned work begins, though revisions during the work may be subject to fees (please refer to your contract or ToS).
Artwork with mature content or themes are accepted on a case-by-case basis. I may use the work in my portfolio (unless you ask me not to), though I am partial to selecting commissioned works that I could share professionally.
I reserve the right to refuse any commission with or without a given reason.
Payment
Sheet prices are base prices. Additional fees may be charged for exceptional complexity, detail, alterations or extreme lengths of time spent on your commission.
Default payment plan has a 50% up front cost, but the schedule is negotiable.
Down Payment is expected within 24hrs of receipt of the Agreement. Please inform me when it is sent, or I will likely miss it and cancel your commission.
Prices listed in USD. I will accept and in fact prefer CAD.
PayPal, Ko-fi, and e-transfers for payments. Canadians may transfer through Interac. Do NOT Send money until I say so.
Process
Feel free to open a chat with me before getting into the contract! Once that discussion wraps, I can prepare a pricing quote, contract, an invoice, and a request for references if needed.
Once the down payment is received, you’ll get thumbnails ASAP. Please choose the composition that suits you best and provide feedback as necessary.
You will receive progress reports on your commission at certain steps of the drawing/painting process.
Please let me know if you would like me to share WIPs publicly or keep them private.
Your contract will stipulate a number of minor edits before I begin charging again.
By the end, you will have a high-resolution PNG of your final image as well as a lower-resolution image for gallery uploading purposes. Please do not upload the high-resolution PNG.
Cancellations/Refunds
I reserve the right to refuse or cancel a commission for any reason and without explanation.
Generally, if I cancel the commission then you will be refunded.
Generally, if you cancel the commission, there are no refunds on smaller pieces, but longer commissions will have refunds by progress made and artist’s discretion.
No refunds upon completion.
Usage Rights
I hold the rights to the works produced. Unless stipulated otherwise, I may publish this work as I please and use it to promote myself.
You can reupload commissioned works with credits (preferably in a link back to me!), but you may not alter the image besides cropping and resizing it or totally transforming it unless your contract/terms stipulates this is permitted.
Do NOT claim the image as your own or repurpose it piecewise unless it’s truly transformative.
Do NOT use the work in AI art or NFTs. This is absolutely forbidden.
You may print the art for your enjoyment and claim the right to the characters, but not their specific portrayal.
Visual Reference Guidelines
I need at least three clear visual references, please supplement this with any important information I may need to know to correctly draw the subject. This can be anything from in-game screenshots, reference sheets, or commissioned works by other artists. Inspiration boards are useful, but I require specific references to avoid designing characters on the spot.
If there are no visual references, I will charge for extra preliminary sketches of your subject.
If you link to a gallery of works, be aware that I cannot guarantee 100% accuracy. Design interpretations may lead to inconsistencies between representations of your character.
I work best when given some artistic freedom. Please prompt precisely, but allow some variation.
